Lilly Driscoll

Lilly Driscoll is an actor, writer and poet from London, England. As well as being deeply passionate about her art, she is committed to highlighting the under-representation of people from poorer backgrounds in the arts. Through her poetry and writing, Lilly often highlights issues of exclusion and disparities in access to the performing arts and theatre in particular. She also advocates for improvements to level the playing field.

Lilly talks to Project Twist-It about navigating a career in acting coming from a background of poverty, and about the misconceptions and shame that often surround young people’s efforts to enter the industry. She also tells us what’s needed to change things for the better.

Working class people take up a tiny percentage of the industry and that needs to change.
What I want to highlight is the fact that those of us from lower socio economic backgrounds often feel invisible. Like nobody sees us at all, because we’re very rarely part of the conversation.
